Stavropol’ State Regional Electric Power Plant
a major condensation electric power plant currently under construction near the settlement of Novotroitsk, Stavropol’ Krai, RSFSR. Upon completion, the plant will have an installed capacity of 3,600 megawatts (MW); the first phase of work involved the construction of four 300-MW units, and the second phase will provide three 800-MW units. Natural gas is used as fuel, with mazut in reserve. Water for cooling is supplied by the Novotroitsk Reservoir; the supply is based on the straight- through return system. Construction was begun in 1971, and the first units went into operation in 1975. The power generated by the Stavropol’ plant is used to cover the needs of the Unified Power System of the Northern Caucasus. Any surplus will be transmitted by lines operating at 330 and 500 kilovolts to the Integrated Power Grid of the USSR.
