an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Saiat Raion, Chardzhou Oblast, Turkmen SSR. Located on the left bank of the Amu Darya (6 km from the river) on the Chard-zhou-Kerki highway, 47 km southeast of Chardzhou. The settlement has a cotton-ginning plant.
Saiat
(also Saed), a settlement in southern Tadzhikistan, located 6 km south of the raion administrative center of Shaartuz. Saiat is known for the remains of the Khadzha-Mashad architectural ensemble, which dates from the tenth to the early 12th century. Among the buildings that have been preserved are two cube-shaped domed structures resembling mausoleums, which are constructed of patterned bricks and linked by a vaulted passage.
