Tarim Basin
Tarim Basin (tä′rēm′) An arid basin of northwest China south of the Tian Shan and north of the Kunlun Mountains. It is traversed by the Tarim River, which flows about 2,100 km (1,300 mi) eastward through the Taklamakan Desert to Lop Nur. The ancient Silk Road passed through the region.Ta′rim Ba′sin n. a region in W China between the Tien Shan and Kunlun mountain ranges. ab. 350,000 sq. mi. (906,000 sq. km). |
