regional odontodysplasia

regional odontodysplasia

A rare localised developmental defect of teeth, which is more common in females, affecting enamel, dentin and pulp of teeth—especially permanent teeth—resulting in an increased risk of caries and periapical inflammation. Most cases are idiopathic; some are associated with syndromes, growth, neurologic and vascular malformations.
Imaging
The teeth in regional odontodysplasia are typically described on plain films as "ghost teeth".
