Shalkarteniz

 

(also Chelkartengiz), a salt bottom northeast of the Aral Sea, in the Kazakh SSR. It has an area of approximately 1,800 sq km. In the spring, waters of the Turgai and Irgiz rivers flow into Shalkarteniz, which becomes a bitter lake with depths of 2–3 m.
