Suprunenko, Nikolai Ivanovich

 

Born Feb. 17 (Mar. 1), 1900, in Poltava. Soviet Ukrainian historian. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1972); professor (1955). Member of the CPSU since 1925.

Suprunenko fought in the Civil War (1918–20). Beginning in 1921 he was involved in public affairs and then in party work. He graduated from the Institute of the Red Professors in Kiev in 1937. That same year he began working at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, where in 1955 he became head of the department of the history of the October Revolution and the Civil War.

Suprunenko’s chief works deal with the history of the Soviet Ukraine. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
