St. Brieuc

 

a city and port in northwestern France, in Brittany, in the department of Côtes-du-Nord; situated at the mouth of the Gouët River. Population, 55,000 (1968). St. Brieuc has machine building, metallurgy, and the textile and food-processing industries. In the vicinity of St. Brieuc, large quantities of vegetables and seed potatoes are grown, and hogs are raised. St. Brieuc also has a fishing industry.
