Peskar’

the Russian common name for any one fish of several genera (Gobio, Pseudogobio, Paraleucogobio, Saurogobio) of the family Cyprinidae. The name is used to designate gobies of the genus Gobio, which includes 20 species. Gobies are commonly found in the fresh waters of Europe and Asia. The most common goby, G. gobio, reaches a length of 15 cm (sometimes 22 cm). It feeds on benthos and, in the spring, the roe of other fish. The fish lives in large schools and reaches sexual maturity by the third or fourth year. The goby has practically no commercial significance. In some bodies of water, the fish falls prey to other fishes.
