an urban-type settlement in Biisk Raion, Altai Krai, RSFSR. Sokolovo is located 18 km from the Zonal’naia railroad station on the Barnaul-Biisk line. It has a distillery.


Sokolovo

 

a village in Zmiev Raion, Kharkov Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. On Mar. 8,1943, during the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Sokolovo was the site of the first attack on the fascist German invaders by the 1st Separate Czechoslovak Battalion, a unit formed in the USSR from Czech and Slovak volunteers under the command of L. Svoboda. The battalion operated within the Third Tank Army of the Voronezh Front.

A monument has been erected in the village to commemorate the military collaboration between Soviet and Czechoslovak soldiers. The inhabitants of Sokolovo have collective membership in the Society for Soviet-Czechoslovak Friendship.
