Urologic Diseases

 

diseases of the urinary tract in the female and the urogenital tract in the male; they are diagnosed by specialized examination procedures and treated by specialized surgical methods.

Urologic diseases include such inflammations of the kidneys as pyelonephritis, pyonephrosis, and renal tuberculosis, in addition to cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, balanitis, nephrolithiasis, tumors of the urogenital organs, nephroptosis, and hydronephrosis. The commonest complications of urological diseases are urosepsis, acute or chronic renal insufficiency, and renal hypertension. Urologic diseases are studied by the specialized clinical discipline of urology.
