On the southeastern border of LA, east of Baton Rouge; organized Oct 27, 1810 (prior to statehood) from Feliciana Parish. Name Origin: For a celebrated Delaware Indian chief who lived in the 1600s; from Tamanend, possibly 'friendly' or 'affable.' His admirers claimed him as their "patron saint" during the American Revolution.
