Petre Panaitescu
Panaitescu, Petre
Born Mar. 13, 1900, in Ia§i; died Nov. 14, 1967, in Bucharest. Rumanian medievalist.
Panaitescu graduated from the University of Bucharest in 1922. From 1927 to 1941 he was an instructor and then a professor of Slavic history there. In 1944 he became associated with the N. Iorga Institute of History of the Rumanian Academy of Sciences.
Panaitescu’s main works dealt with medieval Rumanian culture and with the development of feudalism in Rumania and the Slavic countries. He also devoted much attention to publishing 15th- and 16th-century documents and chronicles.
