Petr Fadeevich Lomako

Born June 29 (July 12), 1904, in the city of Temriuk, present-day Krasnodar Krai. Soviet statesman and economic official. Member of the CPSU from 1925.

Lomako was the son of a peasant farm laborer. After graduating in 1932 from the Moscow Institute of Nonferrous Metals and Gold, he worked from 1932 to 1939 at nonferrous metallurgical enterprises as foreman, shop chief, and director of a plant. Deputy people’s commissar of nonferrous metallurgy of the USSR in 1939–40, Lomako served as people’s commissar and then minister of the same industry in 1940–48, 1950–53, and 1954–57 and as first deputy minister of the metallurgical industry of the USSR in 1948–50 and 1953–54. He further held the posts of chairman of the Krasnoiarsk Sovnarkhoz from 1957 to 1961, deputy chairman of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPSU for the RSFSR in 1961–62, chairman of the State Scientific and Economic Council of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1962, and deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and chairman of Gosplan of the USSR from 1962 to 1965. He has been minister of nonferrous metallurgy of the USSR since September 1965.

Lomako was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee at the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses of the CPSU and a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU at the Twenty-second through Twenty-fourth Congresses. He was a deputy at the second and fourth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Lomako was awarded six Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
