Petr Nevezhin

Nevezhin, Petr Mikhailovich

 

Born June 27 (July 9), 1841, in Smolensk; died May 25, 1919, in Petrograd, Russian writer.

Outstanding among Nevezhin’s numerous plays are Second Youth (1887) and The Desecrated (1916). Nevezhin attempted to follow the dramatic traditions of A. N. Ostrovskii, but his plays are generally epigonic. Nevezhin was also the author of naively didactic novels, novellas, and Easter and Christmas short stories.
