Salamandrina Terdigitata

a tailed amphibian of the family Salamandridae; the sole representative of the genus Salamandrina. The body length reaches 10.5 cm. The back is black, and there is a reddish yellow marking resembling spectacles above the eyes. The throat and underbody are light colored with black spots; the inside of the legs and the underside of the tail are red. Salamandrina terdigitata is found along shorelines throughout the western part of the Apennine Peninsula. It deposits its eggs in the water. The salamander feeds on myriapods and insects. It passes the winter and dry summers in a torpid condition.
