Solar/Terrestrial Energy Programme Solar/Terrestrial Energy Programme (STEP) An international effort aimed at understanding the transfer of energy in the Solar System, and in particular on how energy reaches the Earth from the solar wind. It is a coordinated approach to understanding the physics of the Sun, plasma, and the heliosphere, combining results from satellite missions and ground-based observatories with theory and computer simulations. ESA's contribution has been twofold: the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) and Cluster II (see Cluster). |
