Soldatskaia Pravda

(Soldier’s Pravda), a Bolshevik daily newspaper published in Petrograd from Apr. 15 (28), 1917, through Mar. 6, 1918; not published July through October 1917. At its inception, the newspaper was an organ of the Military Organization of the St. Petersburg committee of the RSDLP(B), and beginning with issue no. 26, dated May 19 (June 1), it became an organ of the Military Organization of the Central Committee of the RSDLP(B). Soldatskaia Pravda dealt mostly with army life. More than 60 articles by V. I. Lenin were printed in the newspaper. The resolutions of the Seventh (April) Conference of the RSDLP(B) were published in a supplement to issue no. 13, dated May 3 (16), 1917. By July 1917, 60 issues had been published; the circulation varied from 50,000 to 75,000 copies.

V. I. Nevskii and N. I. Podvoiskii were on the editorial staff of Soldatskaia Pravda, and M. I. Kalinin, N. V. Krylenko, and K. A. Mekhonoshin were active contributors. After the July Days of 1917, the newspaper was shut down by the bourgeois Provisional Government. From July through October 1917 it ap peared as Rabochii i soldat and Soldat. On October 27 (Novem ber 9), it resumed publication under its former name; 158 issues were printed. On Mar. 27,1918, a decree of the Central Commit tee of the RCP(B) established that a newspaper entitled Bednota (The Poor) be published in place of Soldatskaia pravda, Dere-venskaia bednota, and Derevenskaia pravda.
