Vostochnyi Manych
a river in the Kalmyk ASSR and along its boundary with Stavropol’ Krai, RSFSR. It is 141 km long, and if the lower reaches (usually without drainage) are included its length is more than 200 km; the basin area is 12,500 sq km. The Vostochnyi Manych rises on the southern slopes of the Sal’sk-Manych mountain chain, flows mostly along the Kuma-Manych depression, and terminates in the Sostinskie Lakes. Its right-bank tributaries are the Kalaus, Raguli, and Chograi. The basin contains 113 lakes with a total area of 155 sq km, most of which are brackish or saline. The Vostochnyi Manych is fed by snow; in places it goes dry regularly. It belongs to the Kuma-Manych water system.
