Vostrosablin, Aleksandr Pavlovich

 

Born Aug. 17, 1857; died 1920. Lieutenant general (1914); went over to the Soviet side during the October Revolution. Vostrosablin graduated from the Aleksandr Military School in 1877, served in the Kerch’ Fortress Artillery, and was commander of the Ochakov Fortress Artillery in 1905-07 and of the Sevastopol’ Fortress Artillery in 1907-10. In 1910 he was appointed commandant of Kushka Fortress. During the counterrevolutionary revolt in the Transcaspian region in July and August 1918, he was chairman of the military council of the fortress. For defending the fortress he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. In late 1918, Vostrosablin became head of a program for training red commanders in Tashkent, and he participated in the suppression of the revolt of the Socialist Revolutionaries in January 1919. He was a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Turkestan Republic. Vostrosablin was killed by White bandits.
