Established: 1995.
Location:In the northwestern corner of the Yukon Territory, 50 km by air or 190 km by river north of the community of Old Crow. Old Crow is the most northerly and most isolated community in the Yukon (175 km from the Dempster Hwy.). Park is bounded by Ivvavik National Park (see separate entry) to the north and the U.S. border and Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (see separate entry in US National Parks section) to the west.

Activities:Hiking, canoeing, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing.
Special Features:Dedicated to wilderness preservation and the maintenance of aboriginal lifestyles, park will be developed according to conservation and preservation principles as well as the Vuntut Gwitchin's desire to share their natural and cultural heritage with others. Vuntut National Park, along with Ivvavik National Park and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge represent international efforts to protect a major northern ecosystem defined in part by the Porcupine caribou herd. This herd is one of the largest in North America numbering approximately 160,000 animals.
