Saldus

a city and administrative center of Saldus Raion, Latvian SSR. Located on the Ciecere River (Venta basin). Railroad station on the Liepāja-Jelgava line, 115 km southwest of Riga. Saldus has a meat-packing plant, a butter factory, and a logging and timber procurement establishment. There is also production of furniture and knitwear and haberdashery items. The city has a museum of art and history.
