Petrovsk a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Petrovsk Raion, Saratov Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on both banks of the Medveditsa River, a tributary of the Don. Railroad station (Petrovsk-Saratovskii) on the Atkarsk-Sennaia line, 104 km northwest of Saratov. Population, 34,000 (1974). Petrovsk has a brickyard and a plant producing space motor-vehicle parts. It also has a milk plant and a plant that packs meat and processes poultry. A branch of the Saratov furniture firm is in the city. Petrovsk, which was founded in the late 17th century, has a museum of local lore. |
