The TUC represents the trade union movement in dealings with government and formulates policy for the movement as a whole. Unlike some continental federations it has no direct role in COLLECTIVE BARGAINING, though on occasions TUC officials intervene in major INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES. The TUC can intervene in disputes (for example over membership between unions (see BRIDLINGTON RULES)).
