reheating

[rē′hēd·iŋ] (astronomy) A scenario suggested by the original calculations of the inflationary universe cosmology in which, following inflation, the universe quickly thermalizes to a temperature that is comparable to the energy density stored in the original symmetric pre-inflationary phase of matter. (thermodynamics) A process in which the gas or steam is reheated after a partial isentropic expansion to reduce moisture content. Also known as resuperheating.

Reheating

The addition of heat to steam of reduced pressure after the steam has given up some of its energy by expansion through the high-pressure stages of a turbine. The reheater tube banks are arranged within the setting of the steam-generating unit in such relation to the gas flow that the steam is restored to a high temperature. Under suitable conditions of initially high steam pressure and superheat, one or two stages of reheat can be advantageously employed to improve thermodynamic efficiency of the cycle. In an air-conditioning system, the heating of air which has already been conditioned, e.g., the heating of air supplied to one zone of the system in order to maintain temperature control in that zone.
