Reichenbach Convention of 1790
Reichenbach Convention of 1790
an agreement between Austria and Prussia signed on July 27 in Reichenbach (present-day Dzierżoniów, Poland).
Austria, which had entered the Russo-Turkish War of 1787–91 on Russia’s side in 1788, pledged to leave the war, and Prussia pledged to help restore Austrian rule in the Austrian Netherlands, where it had been abolished during the Brabant Revolution of 1789–90. Great Britain actively promoted the signing of the Reichenbach Convention of 1790 in an attempt, on one hand, to strengthen Turkey in its war with Russia and, on the other hand, to prevent a clash between Austria and Prussia and to enlist their forces in a counterrevolutionary coalition against France.
