Türgesh

Türgesh

a Turkic people living in western Dzungaria and Semirech’e. The Türgesh nationality was formed in the sixth century from the unification of the Abar and Mukri tribes, which constituted the tribal union of the “Black” and “Yellow” Türgesh. In the seventh century the Türgesh became part of the West Turkic Kaganate. In the early eighth century, they were defeated by Kül Tegin, a general of the East Turkic Kaganate. In the middle of the eighth century, the Dzungarian Türgesh were subjugated by the Uighurs, and the Türgesh of Semirech’e were subjugated by the Karluks.
