[¦säl ¦jel ′män·ə‚lith ‚prä‚ses] (materials) A method for fabricating advanced ceramics in which a suspension of colloidal ceramic particles (sol) is converted to a gel by chemical treatment, and then dried and sintered to form a ceramic product. Many ceramic fibers are manufactured by the sol-gel monolith process.
