a city on the southern Pacific coast of Mexico, in the state of Oaxaca. Population, 11,000 (1965). Salina Cruz is an important transportation center. Oil pipelines connect it with the mining regions on the Gulf of Mexico. There is also a food distribution network between the city and these regions. Salina Cruz is a port (freight turnover of 2.4 million tons in 1973) for the export of petroleum products, supplying the northwestern regions of Mexico. There is commercial fishing.
