Surgut State Regional Electric Power Plant

 

a condensation electric power plant located near the city of Surgut, Khanty-Mansi National Okrug, in Tiumen’ Oblast. The rated power of the plant is 2,400 megawatts (MW); the first stage consists of six 200-MW units. Natural and by-product gases are used as fuel. The water-supply system is of the circulating type, with a cooling pond drawing water from the Chernaia River.

Construction of the plant began in 1965, and the first power unit was started up in 1972. Electric power generated by the plant is mainly used in the extraction of oil and gas from the Tiumen’ deposits. Surplus power is transmitted over 500-kilovolt lines to the unified power grid of the Urals.
