Anteclise

an extensive gentle uplift in the layers of the earth’s crust within platforms (plates); the opposite of syneclise. Anteclises are of irregular shape and they may be many hundreds of kilometers across. The incline of the layers on the wings is measured in fractions of a degree of angle. Anteclises develop slowly, over a number of geological periods. As a consequence of this, the thickness of the sedimentary layers in the arched areas of the anteclise is reduced, and entire series that have developed in the adjacent syneclises are often missing. The platform basement here lies at a shallow depth, and sometimes even protrudes onto the surface. On the Russian Platform, examples of anteclises are the Volga-Ural, the Voronezh, and the Byelorussian; on the Siberian Platform, the Anabar Anteclise.
