solid malignancy

A generic term for a non-haematological (blood-borne) malignancy—i.e., not a lymphoma, leukaemia or myeloma—which includes carcinoma (adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma, etc.), melanoma, sarcoma, glioma, teratoma, mesothelioma, etc. In the UK, solid malignancies are the therapeutic specialty of medical oncologists who treat them with chemotherapy, biological response modifiers and other poisons.
