Shchugor

 

a river in the Komi ASSR, a right tributary of the Pechora. The Shchugor has a length of 300 km and drains an area of 9,660 sq km. It rises on the western slopes of the Northern Urals. The river is fed by rain and snow. High water occurs between May and July, and there are freshets in the autumn. The mean flow rate 30 km from the river’s mouth is 252 cu m per sec. The Shchugor freezes over in late October or November, and the ice breaks up in May or early June. The river is a spawning ground for salmon.
