Location:East-central Idaho, bordered by the Bitterroot Range of the Continental Divide on the east. Accessible by US 93 and ID 28. Nearby cities/towns include Challis, Leadore, Mackay, Salmon, and Stanley.
Facilities:Cabins, campgrounds (mostly primitive), equestrian camp, picnic sites, trails (more than 800 miles).
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding, technical mountain climbing, OHV riding, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Includes 1.3 million acres of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the continental U.S.; parts of the Salmon River, a nationally designated Wild and Scenic River; Borah Peak (12,662 feet), Idaho's tallest mountain; segments of Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, and Nez Perce National Historic Trail (see separate entries in national trails section).
