Sheberghan

a city in northern Afghanistan, located at an oasis. Administrative centre of Jozjan Province. Population, 56,500 (1970). Sheberghan is a center for raising karakul sheep. There is rug making in the city. Some of the natural gas that is extracted near Sheberghan is sent by pipeline to the USSR.
