A hybrid drive is an SSD and hard disk that work together as one drive. Hybrids may store only the operating system in the faster SSD, or they may automatically migrate frequently used programs and data from the disk to the SSD. A hybrid drive is essentially an interim device, because SSDs are more costly than the very mature hard drive technology. However, as time moves on, there will be more and more SSD-only computers and fewer ones that rely on spinning magnetic disk platters making thousands of rotations per minute.
