phagemid

phagemid

An engineered bacteriophage (cloning vector) derived from a phage and a plasmid, into which foreign single- or double-stranded DNA is inserted to facilitate characterisation of cloned inserts of DNA by allowing it to replicate.

Applications
High-resolution restriction mapping, rescue of single-stranded DNA, RNA transcription, sequencing of single- and double-stranded nucleic acids, generation of nested deletions, site-directed mutagenesis, prokaryotic expression, eukaryotic expression.
