Tiruchchirappalli

a city in southern India, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Population, 306,200 (1971). Tiruchchirappalli, a transportation junction, has railroad workshops and cotton-ginning, leatherworking, and tobacco-processing enterprises. There is also handicraft production of jewelry, and mica is mined nearby.
