Special Features:One of the world's largest inland seas, Salton Sea resulted from an accidental break in a hastily constructed dike supplying Colorado River water to the Imperial Valley. The 360-square-mile basin is one of southernCalifornia's most popular boating areas -- because of the sea's lowaltitude (228 feet below sea level), atmospheric pressure improvesspeed and ski boat engine performance.
