Kieniewicz, Stefan

 

Born Sept. 20, 1907, in the village of Dereszowicy, Polesie. Polish historian; corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 1965 and professor at the University of Warsaw since 1949.

Kieniewicz’s chief works are concerned with the history of the social movement in 19th-century Poland. He is one of the principal authors and editors of the two-volume History of Poland and of the multivolume Soviet-Polish collection of documents The Uprising of 1863. He has twice received the State Prize of the Polish People’s Republic for his works.
