Stefanov, Boris

 

Born June 8, 1894, in Sofia. Bulgarian botanist and forestry expert. Academician of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1948).

In 1919, Stefanov graduated from the University of Sofia; he became a professor at the university in 1931. From 1954 to 1966 he served as director of the Forestry Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Stefanov wrote numerous works on the taxonomy of higher plants, botanical geography, paleobotany, dendrology, and forestry. His Phytogeographical Elements in Bulgaria (1943) is a general research work on the formation and botanical and geographic regionalization of the country’s vegetation cover. Stefanov was awarded the Dimitrov Prize in 1950.
