Stefan Uroš I
Date of birth unknown; died 1280 at Sopoćani Monastery. King of Serbia (1243–76).
A son of Stefan Prvovenčani, Stefan Uros became king by overthrowing his brother Stefan Vladislav. Stefan Uroš enlarged the Serbian state to the north and to the south. In the last years of his reign, however, an internecine war for the throne developed. Stefan Uroš was deposed by his son Stefan Dragutin and took monastic vows.
