Tisch, Laurence A. (Alan) (“Larry”)

(1923– ) corporate executive; born in Bensonhurst, N.Y. He was the president (1946–74) and investment strategist of Tisch Hotels, a partnership with his brother Robert Tisch (1926). They were later known for buying failing companies and making them profitable through massive lay-offs and strategic shifts. Their major takeovers included Loews Corporation (1961), Lorillard (1968), and CBS (1986), where his immediate cuts at CBS News caused controversy.
