Tishchenko Reaction

(also Tischenko reaction), the disproportionation of aldehydes and the formation of esters under the action of aluminum alcoholates:

where R is an alkyl or aryl. The Tishchenko reaction is used for the industrial and laboratory synthesis of esters. It was discovered by V. E. Tishchenko in 1906.
