SolovIanenko, Anatolii Borisovich

Born Sept. 25, 1932, in Donetsk. Soviet lyric-dramatic tenor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1975).

Solov’ianenko graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute in 1954. From 1952 to 1962 he studied voice with A. N. Ko-robeichenko. From 1963 to 1965 he apprenticed at La Scala in Milan. He became an apprentice at the Ukrainian Theater of Opera and Ballet in 1962 and a soloist in 1965. Solov’ianenko has performed the roles of Andrei in Gulak-Artemovskii’s Zaporozhian Cossack Beyond the Danube, Alfredo, the Duke, and Manrico in Verdi’s La Traviata, Rigoletto, and II Trovatore, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème, Nadir in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles, Edgar in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, and Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon.

Solov’ianenko gives many concerts, performing romances by Russian composers, operatic arias, and Russian, Ukrainian, and Neapolitan songs. He has toured in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, the German Democratic Republic, Belgium, Mongolia, Italy, Canada, Japan, Australia, Cuba, and other countries.
