relative address

[′rel·əd·iv ə′dres] (computer science) The numerical difference between a desired address and a known reference address.

relative address

A memory address that represents some distance from a starting point (base address), such as the first byte of a program or table. The absolute address is derived by adding it to the base address. See address mode.
