Pharmacology Committee

 

in the USSR, a body of experts associated with the Administration for the Introduction of New Drugs and Medical Equipment of the Ministry of Public Health of the USSR. The committee determines the scope of research, including clinical testing, necessary for the study of new drugs, analyzes reports of the research, and recommends to the Ministry of Public Health of the USSR the introduction of new drugs and the deletion of obsolete ones from the official nomenclature. In addition, the committee examines and recommends instructions on the use of drugs and assigns names to new drugs. Imported drugs are also under the purview of the committee. It supervises tests of such drugs and authorizes clinical trials for them. It recommends their use and production in the USSR and their registration with the Ministry of Public Health so that they may be purchased abroad for practical use.
