Salvisberg, Otto Rudolf

Born Oct. 19, 1882, in Bern; died Dec. 23, 1940, in Zurich. Swiss architect.

Salvisberg studied in Munich and then worked in Berlin from 1908 to 1930. In 1931 he became a professor at the Higher Technical School in Zürich. He created residential, administrative, public, and office buildings and churches in Berlin, Basel, Zurich, and Bern. (His public buildings included a university in Bern, 1930–31.) In his architectural work, Salvisberg adhered to the principles of rationalism (an office building in Zurich, 1939–40); he used elements of popular residential architecture on several exteriors (the settlement in Köpenick, Berlin, 1923–28).
