Steinbrugge, Karl V. (Vathauer)

(1919– ) engineering seismologist; born in Tucson, Ariz. He was a structural designer (1942–50) before joining the University of California: Berkeley (1950–78). He advised national and state organizations on the environmental impact of earthquakes, and made major contributions to the U.S. Public Health Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act (1977).
