(nickname of Rashid al-din (Rashid) Mohammed bin Abd al-Jalal al-Umari). Born 1087, in Balkh; died 1182 or 1177. Persian-Tadzhik poet who served at the court of Atsyz Khwarizm-shah and wrote one of the first Persian textbooks on rhetoric and poetics, The Garden of Secrets of the Subtleties of Poetry, edited by A. Eqbal, Tehran, 1307 A.H. (A.D . 1929).
