TaurotragusTaurotragusa genus of artiodactyl mammals of the family Bovidae. The Taurotragus comprise the largest antelopes. The body length is 3 m or more, and the height at the shoulders is about 1.8 m. The animals weigh up to 900 kg. Both males and females have massive, spirally twisted horns, measuring up to 1 m long. There is a fold of skin, or dewlap, under the neck. The tail is tufted. The animals are yellow, with faint white transverse stripes on the trunk and neck. There are two species: the common eland (T. oryx) and the bongo (T. eurycerus). They are distributed in central and southern Africa. Taurotragus
